Learning a second language in IS (not English / Chinese)

Happened to think about if the kids should learn Spanish in middle / high school later (in case if they really need to go to US). Now they are still in elementary classes. Any experience Any impact on high school exams? Sharing on other languages’ learning are also welcomed! Thanks a lot!
