Your case is similar to my daughter: shy but stubborn.
But I think in another way:
(1) Shy is natural for little child to protect herself from stranger. Good.
(2) Stubborn means 有主見,

I always take time to let my daughter change her mind by giving her reasons, as I know if she takes my opinion, she will do it better later on.
